Black Obsidian Power Point

Black obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, traditionally associated with protection and grounding. This power point, weighing roughly 80–120 grams, is polished to a glossy black finish and shaped into a standing point that draws the eye upward — a striking, grounding piece for a desk, shelf, or grid. Quick facts Stone Black obsidian Composition Volcanic glass, silica-rich Hardness Mohs ~5–5.5 Color Black Chakra Root Traditionally used for Protection, grounding Care/Water-safe Safe for brief contact; avoid harsh chemicals; obsidian can have sharp edges Meaning & history Point and generator cuts have a long history in crystal work, where the tip is traditionally thought to direct energy outward or upward rather than let it sit still. Black obsidian itself sits at the heart of the protection and grounding family, linked to the root chakra and a steady, rooted feeling, and volcanic in origin — formed the instant lava meets air or water and cools before it can crystallize. How to use it Keep the point near a workspace as a visual anchor, hold it briefly during meditation, or set it at the center of a small grid alongside other stones. It pairs naturally with our Black Obsidian Pyramid or Black Obsidian Sphere if you're building a display, and you'll find more options in our balance and wellness collection. Care & cleansing A brief rinse won't harm the point, but skip long soaks and harsh chemicals, and dry it promptly with a soft cloth. Because it's cut from glass, the point's tip and facets can be genuinely sharp, so keep it away from hard knocks and store it somewhere it won't be bumped. Frequently asked questions What is a black obsidian power point used for? This is a decorative and symbolic piece, not a health product or medical device. In crystal tradition, black obsidian points are kept for protection and grounding, often set up as a meditation focus or a directional display piece. How big is the point? Each point weighs roughly 80 to 120 grams, a substantial handheld size that also stands well on its own as a desk or shelf piece. Why is it shaped like a point? Point and generator shapes are a common cut in crystal work, often associated with directing energy upward or outward from the tip, which is why they're popular for desks, altars, and grids. Is every point exactly the same? No. Each one is natural and one of a kind, so exact size, shape, and surface finish vary from piece to piece. Can I get the point wet? A brief rinse is fine, but avoid long soaks and harsh chemicals, and dry it promptly, since obsidian is volcanic glass and can be sensitive to sudden temperature swings. Are the edges of the point sharp? Yes, obsidian is glass, and cut points can have genuinely sharp edges or a pointed tip, so handle it carefully and keep it away from small children.
