Black Obsidian Phurba (Vajra Ritual Dagger)

The Phurba, also known as a Vajra ritual dagger, is a powerful spiritual implement used in Bon and Tibetan Buddhist practice. Traditionally employed by practitioners during healing rituals, meditation, and ceremonial work, the phurba symbolizes the cutting away of obstacles, negativity, and harmful energies. This piece is hand-carved from Black Obsidian, a volcanic glass long revered for its protective and grounding qualities. Obsidian is known as a stone of deep purification, believed to absorb negative influences and help reveal hidden patterns that may block personal or spiritual growth. The three-sided blade of the phurba carries profound symbolic meaning. Each edge represents the transformation of the three poisons of the mind: • Ignorance • Attachment / Desire • Hatred / Aversion In spiritual practice, the phurba is not used as a physical weapon but as a symbolic tool of liberation—a reminder that wisdom, compassion, and awareness can dissolve the forces that create suffering. The upper portion of the phurba features traditional symbolic carvings representing protective and awakened energies. These forms embody guardianship and the power to subdue negativity while restoring balance and harmony. While some collectors appreciate phurbas for their artistry and cultural significance, they remain first and foremost sacred ritual instruments used for meditation, healing practices, altar work, and spiritual protection. This larger phurba carries a strong presence and makes a powerful addition to a personal altar, healing space, or sacred environment.
