Vanilla may be one of the most common perfumery ingredients in the world, but making the note shine on its own isn't easy. Many vanilla-centered scents end up smelling like pink candy floss or cinnamon-hued baked goods—and don't get us wrong; those can be olfactory delights—but rarely do we get to experience a perfume that smells gloriously like the real thing: dark, rich, and exotic but as pure as a cut-open vanilla bean pod. Now we've found it in Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, the latest from Dame Perfumery Scottsdale. The full list of notes includes Mexican vanilla absolute, lemon, grapefruit, caramel, nutmeg, gardenia, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, musk, and tonka, but the impression is vanilla. No more, no less.  Dame Perfumery Scottsdale is the creation of Jeffrey Dame, a veteran of the fragrance industry. He collaborates on the project with his son, Cullen, a budding scent aficionado and artist, with whom he has built a new line of modern American perfumes. The new Dame Perfumery Scottsdale, opening soon, will be a friendly, social place to explore perfume in Scottsdale, Arizona. Find out more about Dame Perfumery Scottsdale in our BLOG. Black Flower Mexican Vanilla was inspired by Dame's love of vanilla and desire to create a scent that would finally let the note shine on its own.
