Black Diamond Medaka

Bring dramatic brilliance to your medaka pond with the Black Diamond Medaka (Japanese name: ブラックダイヤメダカ) — a striking ornamental strain that combines the deep-black intensity of “Orochi” with the lamé sparkle of Hoshikawa lineage. This line was developed by Mr. Nakazato in Kanagawa Prefecture and completed by the fourth generation (F4) through meticulous selective breeding. The Black Diamond Medaka inherits its dark body, black eyes, and fins from Orochi, while incorporating refined blue and silver lamé scales from Hoshikawa (blue lamé Miyuki). Thanks to carefully controlled pairings, this strain has a high fixation rate and consistent appearance across generations. Learn more about the Black Diamond Medaka on our Medaka Encyclopedia page.
