BioGuard Arctic Blue Algae Protector | Winterizer

BioGuard Arctic Blue Algae Protector is a winterizing algaecide built for the one stretch of the year when nothing is protecting your pool. It prevents the growth of all types of pool algae and helps maintain water clarity through the off season, so what comes out from under the cover in spring is water rather than a project. Winter is a harder problem than it looks. A closed pool sits for five or six months with no circulation, no testing, and no corrections. Whatever sanitizer residual you left in October is gone within weeks. From that point on, the only thing standing between your pool and an algae bloom is the algaecide you put in at closing — and it has to hold the line unattended, in cold water, in the dark, for the entire winter. That's a different requirement than a summer algaecide, which is topped up weekly and backed by an active chlorine residual. A winterizing algaecide gets one application and has to last. Arctic Blue Algae Protector is non-staining and requires no mixing or pre-dissolving — it pours straight from the bottle into the pool. It works in chlorinated or brominated pools of all surface and filter types, so there's no compatibility check to run before closing. It's step two of the Arctic Blue closing sequence: winter shock first to oxidize the organic load, then the algae protector to guard the months ahead, then a closing treatment to clarify and remove phosphates. The shock cleans up what's there; this product protects what comes next. Neither one does the other's job. Pro Tip: This is the step that determines what spring looks like, and it's the one people skip to save money. A winter shock burns off the organic load you accumulated over the summer — genuinely useful, but it's spent within days. After that the pool has no protection at all for five or six months, and algae doesn't need warm water or sunlight to establish under a cover. Skipping the algaecide saves roughly the price of one bottle and routinely costs a full opening recovery: shock, algaecide, brushing, vacuuming, filter cleanings, and a pool nobody can swim in for the first two weeks of the season.
