Big Single 5

Description Tone Magnet Types Dimensions Artists These pickups are hands down the tonal giants of our bass pickup arsenal. The player should expect to wrestle with the repercussions of this pickup's roaring aggression and bludgeoning bawl of extreme sonic salubrity. The Big Single is a single coil pickup packed into a soap-bar cover that can hardly contain the force their fuzz facilitating, flesh flogging flock of fibrillating inflection. These pickups use the same large magnet load as our hum canceling Fat Stack; however, without the extra stacked coil found in the FS, the Big Single's wind is able to take up the entire space of its bobbin, resulting in a super packed coil that works as the distributor of the monster tone these pickups have come to be known for. Technical Details: Single coil 5 string soapbar bass pickups. Available as single neck or bridge pickup or as a set. Angled poles. 19mm string spacing standard. Available in Alnico III or V magnets: Alnico III: will provide a blanket of warmth for your pickup, giving it a slightly softer character. Click here to add Alnico III option. Alnico V: all around brighter, punchier, and meaner (Standard). Cover options: Bartolini® P2 (4.27″ x 1.27″) EMG40® (1.51″ x 4.02″) History: The Nordic craftsman that inhabit our shop discovered these pickups one day in the lab when they accidentally combined a threateningly large coil with Nordstrand's famous angled pole design. The result was nuclear: our shop still hasn't quite recovered from the vibrational fallout, but we can proudly say that as a result of this combination we have developed a product that contains radioactive vigor. Given these pickup's mammoth presence and tremendous ability to facilitate fuzz, they have become a Nordstrand shop favorite. *Not exactly what you are looking for?  Email the shop directly or call the shop at: 909-790-2548 to find out about our many custom pickup options. Tonal Balance = 6 1=Dark/Bass-Heavy, 10=Bright/Less Bass Mids = 5 1=Less Mids, 10=More Mids   Dynamics = 7 1=Slow, Loose, Blurry, 10=Quick, Tight, Controlled   Character/Color = 8 1=Flat, Plain, 10=Colorful   Alnico III magnets differ from Alnico V in that they are warmer with a softer character. Think of them like a 60’s J style sound taken even further down the warm and fat path. Alnico V by contrast is brighter, cleaner and punchier, and will have a more wiry, stringy character. As another example, we’d recommend A3 for fretless or a fat 60’s Jaco type thing and A5 is great for a modern slap type thing or an R and B sound. Alnico V comes standard. I always wanted to keep things simple in my way of playing the bass, my sound. Nordstrand basses and Nordstrand pickups just let me play at rehearsals, gigs or in studios without ever losing this kind of satisfied feeling" --Marc "Mulles" Muller “Carey Nordstrand is one of the smartest and most restless innovators in the biz. I’ve used his Big Singles and Dual Coils in both Nordstrand and other basses, and have been consistently impressed by their clarity, broad frequency response, and overall sweet tone.” --Jonathan Herrera "Since I got my first Big Single loaded bass, all my basses got Nordstrand pickups exclusively. I am using the NP5, the BigRig, Big Singles and NJ5 sets. The NP5/BigRig set do help me to cut through ANY loud band. As for single coils, there is no better than BigSingles and NJ5!" --Gilles Loes "Super punchy, growly, hyper-defined pickups.. I can not ask for more! Thanks Carey!" -- Alberto Rigoni
