Artist Bio Whispers of the Wild: Wayne Parmenter's Artistic Odyssey Nurtured by the winds along Lake Erie, Wayne Parmenter's artistic journey traces its roots to a primal connection between a boy and the untamed outdoors. Growing up amidst the serenity of upper Pennsylvania, Wayne's childhood was a symphony of nature, from hiking and hunting to crafting his first brushes with sheepdog hair. This early fascination with the Earth's untamed beauty set the stage for an artistic career that would leave an indelible mark. Honored with a full scholarship at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh after high school, Wayne's artistic prowess soared. He became a national children's book illustrator, showcasing his talent with prestigious clients like Woolrich, FedEx, and even contributing paintings for the White House as commissions for fine arts. Wayne's excellence in illustration led to his induction into the esteemed Society of Illustrators, an accomplishment that speaks volumes about his standing in the artistic community. Now settled in Hickory, North Carolina, Wayne has found a unique canvas for his creativity—painting on leather chairs. This distinctive choice reflects his love for the tactile, the real, and the connection to the Earth. The chairs, adorned with animals, mountains, and earthy tones, carry the weight of history and age, creating a powerful presence in any room. Wayne's approach is rooted in creating emotionally driven themes, invoking a range of feelings from viewers through his masterful use of warm colors and powerful shapes. As a man who loves to travel, camp, and explore the untamed corners of the Earth, Wayne draws inspiration from places untouched by development. On a recent journey out west, he acquired a Buffalo tooth, a personal talisman that now hangs around his neck as a symbolic connection to the wild and the untamed spirit of the Buffalo. Wayne's artistic journey is not just a profession; it's a passion that keeps him inspired and content. At 60 years young, he stands as a testament to the untamed spirit that fuels his creativity. Wayne stays in good shape, both physically and artistically, maintaining a rustic gray beard that complements his appearance as a slightly wild and untamed artist. Recently collaborating with Remington Tanner Furniture and Adobe Interiors, Wayne is excited about the new prospects and doors this opportunity has opened. It allows him to paint majestic wild animals like elk, buffalo, and horses, expanding his artistic horizons. Wayne's commitment to his craft, combined with a deep connection to nature, reflects in his creations, making each piece a journey into the heart of the untamed. Family plays a pivotal role in Wayne's life. With a wife named Anna and three lovely children—Carson, Katie, and Mara—he finds support and inspiration in the warmth of his home. As Wayne envisions expanding his artistic reach across the Midwest, West Coast, and East Coast, he aims to explore themes that resonate with a diverse audience, from bears and mountain lions to the Blue Ridge mountains. Ultimately, Wayne's goal transcends creating mere artwork; he strives to forge an emotional connection with his audience. The Texas Rose chair, with its powerful symbolism and accompanying narrative, serves as a beacon for this ambition. Wayne hopes that through his art, people not only appreciate the visual aesthetics but also connect with the stories woven within, allowing a piece of the artist to linger in their homes. His untamed nature, coupled with a warm and genuine persona, radiates through every brushstroke, inviting viewers to share in the joy and purpose that art brings to his life. Overall Dimensions: 29" W x 35" D x 33" H Arm Height: 24" Seat Depth: 22" Seat Height: 19" Leather Description: This is a full grain aniline leather tanned in a historic leather producing region of Italy using English hides. The century old tannery prepares this leather article by applying a hot wax, then turning the hides in old wooden tanning drums overnight to soften the natural fibers and impart it with a remarkable suppleness. The leather is then upholstered in its "crust form" on the furniture in North Carolina, After the furniture is made our leather artisans apply a multi step hand rubbed Patina using the same waxes and pigments used in Italy. Performing this process on the actual finished piece allows our artisans to develop a unique Patina, composition, and overall essence that creates a piece of furniture that has uniqueness, character and style that matches the individual who's selecting it. This leather imparts the feeling of a softer, well broken in leather one might find on a decades old chair discovered in a French country estate or the Parisian flea market. The leather is brand new from our Artisans hands... without the aging issues that sometimes come from the hands of time. Truly a unique, hand-made article in an era when only companies committed to the highest standards lavish this sort of attention and time to unique American made furniture. True 100% top/full grain cowhide leather is characterized by variations in shade, texture, color and grain. Healed marks and scars are normal and enhance the natural beauty of the hides.
