Bicycling Poems, by JK Miller

Poetry, chapbook, 40 pages, from Bottlecap Features. The poems collected here reveal the physical and emotional cadence of the cyclist on a long tour. Moments of solitude, gratitude, and grit unspool on the page in a cadence that is at once sweet, anguished and funny. A chain of fear, loneliness, and sweat – surprise, delight and love of the stranger – propels the reader to discover a new geography – one that usually goes unnoticed. It is a geography of the soul – in slow, steady motion. JK Miller is a former third grade dual language teacher. He lives on the edge of cornfields in the Village of Kirkland, Illinois. He is the first place winner in the modern sonnet category of the 2025 Helen Schaible International Sonnet Contest. In the summer of 2025 he completed a solo 1,335-mile bicycle ride from his house to his son’s house in Irvington, NY to see his newborn grandson.
