BFF Footstool

The Moooi BFF Footstool is Marcel Wanders' take on the classic button-tufted ottoman, except he blew up the traditional capitone technique until one quilted section became the entire piece. It's part of the award-winning BFF modular sofa system, but works just fine on its own if you need somewhere to put your feet up or add extra seating when people show up unexpectedly. Wanders looked at the deep-buttoned upholstery you see on old Chesterfield sofas and thought "what if we made each diamond-shaped section way bigger and turned it into modern furniture?" The result is this oversized quilted footstool that keeps the elegance of that classic technique but doesn't feel like you're decorating with your grandmother's furniture. The wooden frame with steel springs and foam gives you that soft-yet-firm support where you actually want to rest your feet instead of just tolerating it. What makes this footstool more useful than most is how it doubles as occasional seating without looking like you pulled over a cube from storage. The generous size means adults can actually sit on it comfortably during gatherings, and the quilted surface provides enough grip that throw pillows or blankets don't constantly slide off when you drape them over it. The construction quality shows in how the button tufting stays secure and the cushioning maintains its shape instead of developing that sad, compressed look cheaper ottomans get after a few months. You can choose from over 482 fabric options, which sounds overwhelming but means you can actually match your existing furniture or go bold with something that stands out. The footstool pairs with the larger BFF sofa modules if you want to build out a whole modular system, or it just lives by itself near an armchair where you need it. Moooi's been Marcel Wanders' primary platform since he co-founded it with Casper Vissers in 2001, and the BFF collection reflects his philosophy about design needing to "create an environment of love" rather than just solving functional problems. Wanders approaches furniture with this idea that pieces should feel like companions - hence calling it BFF, your best friend forever - rather than just objects that fill space. His work tends to polarize people because he's not interested in minimal Scandinavian restraint, preferring instead to make furniture with personality and presence. The Dutch manufacturing ensures quality construction, and Wanders' approach to reimagining classic techniques like capitone keeps the designs from feeling either too traditional or trying too hard to be contemporary.
