Tierpark Berlin, Rhinos

This striking watercolor-esque poster commemorates the 50th anniversary of Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde, the zoo established in East Berlin in 1955. Signed by K. Rietschel, the artwork presents a magnificent Indian rhinoceros mother with her calf, rendered in naturalistic earth tones against a dramatic teal background. The Indian rhinoceros, with its distinctive armor-like skin plates and single horn, makes a compelling subject. The artist captures the texture of the hide with particular attention to the studded bumps on the hindquarters, characteristic of this endangered species. The tender pairing of adult and young reflects the zoo's successful breeding programs. Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde holds unique historical significance as the zoo of East Berlin during the Cold War division. Its 50th anniversary marked both institutional longevity and successful integration into reunified Germany. A standout piece for collectors of zoo memorabilia, wildlife art, or Berlin historical ephemera. Size: 32" x 22.5" Artist: K. Rietschel Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear, fading and toning.
