Tierpark Berlin, Parrots

A striking zoological poster from Tierpark Berlin featuring two magnificent macaws rendered with scientific precision and artistic flair. Designer Reiner Zieger captures the Scarlet Macaw (Gelbflügelara) and Green-winged Macaw (Grünflügelara) perched on twisted tropical vines against a soft, atmospheric forest backdrop. The brilliant scarlet plumage transitions through golden yellows to deep cobalt blues, showcasing the natural splendor of these South American parrots. This piece represents the proud tradition of East German zoological illustration, where educational purpose met decorative appeal. Produced during the Cold War era when Berlin remained a divided city, this poster represents the artistic achievement of Tierpark Berlin, East Germany's answer to the historic zoo in the West. A wonderful example of mid-century natural history art with strong decorative presence, this poster appeals equally to ornithological enthusiasts, collectors of vintage zoo ephemera, and those drawn to the distinctive visual culture of East Germany. *Note lower green border reads brighter in person.
