Tierpark Berlin, Elephants

Three young Asian elephants cavort across this charming promotional poster for Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde, one of Europe's largest landscape zoos. The watercolor illustration captures the playful energy and endearing qualities of juvenile pachyderms, their gray hides rendered with naturalistic detail against a warm palette of ochre and sienna that evokes distant savannas. Produced during the Cold War era when Berlin remained a divided city, this poster represents the artistic achievement of Tierpark Berlin, East Germany's answer to the historic zoo in the West. The Tierpark has maintained one of Europe's most successful elephant breeding programs, and this poster showcases that legacy, using the universal appeal of baby elephants to draw visitors to the expansive 160-hectare grounds in Berlin's Lichtenberg district. A delightful example of contemporary zoo poster art, this piece combines scientific observation with commercial charm. The Tierpark's modernized logo appears discretely in the corner, while clean typography anchors the composition. A standout piece for collectors of animal art, zoo memorabilia, or Berlin ephemera.
