Bellini® Strawberry Crape Myrtle – Dwarf Red Blooms

Bellini® Strawberry Crape Myrtle: Big Summer Color on a Compact Shrub Enjoy crape myrtle flowers without making room for a full-size tree. Bellini® Shrub Myrtle™ Strawberry (Lagerstroemia indica 'Strawconbel') brings bright red flowers to a naturally compact, mounded shrub approximately 3–4 feet tall and wide. Picture vivid flower clusters brightening a sunny patio border or a small foundation bed through the warm season. Its manageable size makes it easier to place where you can appreciate the crinkled petals up close, without repeatedly cutting back a tree-sized variety. Why Choose Bellini® Strawberry? Bright red blooms: A bold summer accent that can read as strawberry-pink in the garden. Naturally compact habit: Approximately 3–4 feet tall and wide, ideal for smaller planting spaces. Summer interest: The breeder lists the natural bloom season as summer and late summer. Powdery mildew resistance: Selected for resistance, not immunity to every pest or disease. Flexible placement: Suits sunny mixed beds, low borders, group plantings, and appropriately sized containers. Growing Zones & Site Requirements USDA hardiness zones: 5–10, following the breeder's current cultivar guidance. Mature size: Approximately 3–4 feet tall by 3–4 feet wide; conditions and winter injury can affect growth. Light: Full sun. Soil: Well-drained soil. Avoid persistently soggy planting sites. Water: Water regularly until established and monitor moisture during dry spells. Container plants require closer attention. Winter habit: Deciduous, with foliage dropping for winter rather than providing an evergreen screen. Available Size This listing offers a 3 Gallon nursery container. Container volume is not mature size and does not guarantee flowers at delivery. Cold-Climate & Container Care In colder parts of the growing range, top growth may die back in winter. The breeder reports that plants can re-flush from the roots and flower in the same season, but winter survival, regrowth, and bloom performance depend on local conditions. Do not interpret zone 5 hardiness as a guarantee of an intact woody shrub after every winter. For containers, choose a suitable pot with drainage holes and leave room for root growth. Roots in pots are more exposed to cold than roots in the ground, so plan for winter protection where needed. Pruning & Bloom Expectations Use the naturally compact habit to your advantage: leave room for its mature spread instead of relying on severe topping to fit the space. Remove dead or damaged growth as needed and use local extension guidance for pruning timing and assessment of winter injury. Natural flowering is in summer and late summer, not a guaranteed spring display. Earlier flowers on nursery-grown plants may result from controlled production conditions. Bloom duration varies with weather, light, plant maturity, and care. Disease resistance still benefits from airflow, appropriate watering, and routine inspection. Choose Bellini® Strawberry for bright summer flowers and a compact crape myrtle that fits a sunny garden.
