Behind the Door

This painting, is a powerful piece to me, and hopefully to you as well. It was my first venture into the realm of cubism, which also embodies a pivotal moment in my life—a moment of transition, upheaval, and profound growth. At first glance, notice a woman standing exposed against a closed door, her silhouette a metaphor for the threshold between the past and the future. I was going through a lot of change when I painted her. A move to new surroundings, ending a toxic relationship, and the bold leap into the unknown as I abandoned the security of a corporate job to chase my artistic dreams. The woman's posture shows vulnerability and resilience. On the right side of her face, her eyes gaze downward, mirroring the apprehension that often accompanies periods of transition. Change, after all, is hard. Yet, on the left side of her face, her eyes are wide open, a smile forming on her lips. Here lies the essence of courage—the willingness to embrace the unknown, to face the future with determination. Against this backdrop, an orchid slowly blooms—a symbol of feminine strength and resilience. Like the woman in the painting, the orchid represents a journey of self-discovery, a gradual blossoming of inner beauty and authenticity. The pitcher, a carries with it a potent message—a reminder to the viewer not to settle for mere droplets of sustenance in life. Instead, it urges us to summon the courage to ask for more, to seek out the fullness of our desires and aspirations. "Behind the Door" is more than just a painting; it is a manifesto—to never give up on your dreams, to heed the whispers of intuition that beckon us toward our true selves. It is a reminder that change, though daunting, is often the catalyst for growth and transformation. I invite you to step boldly through the door of possibility, and to revel in the limitless potential that awaits on the other side.
