Before We Visit The Godess

This is a story for all mothers and daughters, regardless of where they were born and where they are right now – across cultural and national boundaries. A subtle story of vanquishing demons – those demons that women nurture in their hearts that keeps them bound and guilt-ridden. The story moves between Calcutta and US and between generations of mothers and daughters; three unapologetically complicated, fierce female protagonists. From Durga to Sabitri to Bela to Tara, the story shows us how their lives are intertwined across continents and how every decision taken by an earlier generation impacts the futures and fortunes of the next. The family saga unfolds from the mid-twentieth century to 2020, told through a collage of three women’s viewpoints-- but also from a few of the men who intersect their lives. “But inside loss there can be gain, too, like the small silver spider Bela had discovered one dewy morning, curled asleep at the center of a rose.” ― Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Before We Visit the Goddess Additional Information: Author: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Published 2017 240 pages, paperback 8 ½ X 5 ½ inches
