Defenders' team of policy, legal, science and advocacy experts is working at every level to transform policies, protect habitat, and ensure long-lasting solutions for wildlife and humans alike.  Whether it’s where you’re from or where you live, we’re proud of the incredible animals and landscapes around us. They shape us, ground us, humble us, and connect us. We must work together to protect our natural heritage and save wildlife from extinction before it's too late. North America is fortunate to have some of the most abundant and diverse wildlife and natural resources on Earth. More than 200,000 known species exist in the United States alone and all are part of our impressive wildlife heritage. But we are in the sixth mass extinction and stand to lose 40% of species in the U.S. due to habitat loss and fragmentation, unrestrained development, resource extraction, invasive species and disease — all compounded by climate change. For generations, we have recognized our moral duty to conserve and protect the diversity of wildlife and special places that make our country unique. This legacy is part of what makes us proud to be Americans and prouder still to pass this shared heritage to the next generation. But this legacy is in danger. In the wild, there is no left or right. There is only right and wrong. We have to stand together and fight for what is right. Artist: Asante Riverwind
