In Job 31:14-23, Job reflects on his responsibility to the poor and the weak, questioning what he would do when God rises up and visits him. He acknowledges that the same God who made him in the womb also made the poor and the weak. Job, in this Bible verse, describes God's relationship with those unborn children in the womb, saying God has fashioned us "in the womb." God is the one who has made that child "in the womb." Job speaks of his efforts to care for the less fortunate, ensuring that the fatherless and the poor were not neglected. He describes how he provided for them from his youth, sharing his food with the fatherless and ensuring that the poor were clothed. Job expresses the gravity of failing in these responsibilities, indicating that destruction from God was a terror to him, and because of God's highness, he could not endure failing to protect the weak. The passage highlights God's relationship with the weak and vulnerable, affirming the value of every human life, even from the womb. Job reflects on what he hopes is not true in his life: If he has withheld from the poor the things they desire. If he has caused the eyes of the widow to fail. If he has eaten any morsel alone while the fatherless have not eaten. Job also recounts his efforts to help from his youth: The fatherless were brought up with Job as if he were their father. Job guided the fatherless from the time they came from their mother's womb. He asks for punishment if he has failed in these duties: If he sees and does nothing when any perish for want of clothing or any poor without covering. If the poor have not been blessed by him or warmed by the fleece of his sheep. If he has lifted up his hand against the fatherless when he saw his help in the gate.
