Bay Laurel - Laurus Nobilis

Sweet Bay, botanical name Laurus nobilis, is an aromatic evergreen tree or hedge that is prized for its fragrant bay leaves, which, when dried, are used to add a distinctive flavor to soups, stews, and a variety of cuisines. A Mediterranean native, this moderately growing evergreen is commonly used in landscapes as a shrub or hedge, though it looks fantastic in tree form too. Cold hardy and drought tolerant once established, the water-wise Bay Laurel loves the heat and thrives in full to partial sun environments. Due to its slower growth rate, it's best to buy them as big as you can, to enjoy the many benefits this plant provides.  It can be used as a medium to large evergreen as a hedge, as its dense habit makes it a good choice for use as a border or screen. Easily shape Bay Laurel's into cones for a stunning formal landscape! It tolerates a wide range of soil conditions making it a popular choice for landscapes across California. Chefs will want to plant Bay Laurel into their personal 'Chef's Garden' in order to have the leathery, aromatic leaves ready to add flavor to a wide range of dishes.
