Based out of Japan's Iwate Prefecture, one of the northernmost provinces, Gorsch was born into a quiet rural life, taking inspiration from antique German tailoring and early proto-workwear. The garments are beautifully constructed, frequently making use of deadstock vintage textiles, with tailored silhouettes and unisex styling. Gorsch's Spring/Summer 2024 Collection is their 12th seasonal release, and takes inspiration from the wardrobe and personal style of a local grape farmer, Mr. Sasaki, and his wife, Kanako. They run a small farm in Iwate's Shiwa District, growing grapes for white, red, and orange natural wines using what Gorsch refer to as "natural farming principles" - having purchased and restored an abandoned vineyard to produce naturally fermented wines. With names like Bauer & Bauerin, both meaning "farmer" in German, the styles are understated - "simple" in appearance yet deceptively complex in execution. The rustic undertones in each piece's design help to balance the more formal silhouettes, creating elevated casual garments that fit easily into a summer wardrobe, whether you're on the farm laboring, or sharing a bottle of something with friends: you'll look your absolute best. The Bauer Jacket is based on 1930s era semi-formalwear, with a design based on "Town Jackets" worn by rural farmers on special occasions and during town gatherings. Cut as a two button blazer, it's got a tailored shape, with a half-belted back and notch lapels above the placket. The pockets are slightly undersized, and pair with the slightly-larger-than-average body for a subtly casual silhouette, further emphasized by the double back vent and plain cuffs. It's made from Gorsch's "Weather Wool" a wool/linen fabric with all the best features of both fibers that make it up. Woven at a slightly low tension, the wool yarns are brushed for softness, helping to minimize the linen content's wrinkling without eliminating the subtle sheen present across its face. It's given a final rinse after finishing as well, helping relax the fibers further and emphasizing some of the unique textural irregularities throughout. An excellent garment and fabric for warmer weather, it features a partial buggy lining through the body, with tonal hardware and custom woven labels. Over time, the already exceptional fabric will continue to break in, developing a unique and "authentic" patina throughout. Fits true to size. Dry clean only. 52% wool / 48% linen All black Weather Wool fabric Partial buggy lining Two button placket Notch lapel Double rear vent Three pockets Half belt Slightly oversized fit Tonal hardware Clean finish interior Plain cuffs Custom woven labels True to size Dry clean only Made in Japan
