Batman: Urban Legends #1A (DC Comics 2021)

Batman: Urban Legends #1A launches a fresh DC Comics anthology series that shifts the Gotham spotlight away from Bruce Wayne entirely. Released in 2021 as part of the Infinite Frontier crossover event, this 64-page, full-color issue bundles four independent creative teams to kick off serialized mini-arcs featuring antiheroes, legacy warriors, and entrenched rogues navigating a fractured city. Inside Stories and Creative Rosters Cheer: Part 1 of 6 – Chip Zdarsky and Eddy Barrows (supported by Marcus To and Eber Ferreira) track Red Jason Todd as he investigates Cheer, a volatile new street drug destabilizing Gotham. His inquiry forces a direct collision with Batman. New Roots – Stephanie Phillips and Laura Braga step into Harley Quinn’s life just ahead of her ongoing title. Harley drives the narrative to resolve her complicated history with Poison Ivy, beginning the hunt to locate her former lover. The Caretaker: Part 1 of 3 – Brandon Thomas and Max Dunbar bring Black Lightning, Katana, and Metamorpho back together for a coordinated mission. A surprise appearance by a figure from Katana’s past immediately fractures their alliance. The Long Con: Part 1 of 5 – Matthew Rosenberg continues his narrative thread from Batman #101 alongside Ryan Benjamin, explaining Cole Cash’s arrival in Gotham. The setup establishes HALO’s involvement and primes a second clash between Batman and Grifter. Ages 13+. By structuring the launch as a multi-title anthology, Batman: Urban Legends #1A allows readers to jump straight into any storyline without catching up on months of lead-in issues. The separate creative teams maintain distinct visual styles and pacing, making this issue both a low-friction entry point and a high-density sampler for DC’s expanded Gotham roster.
