About- Also known as escarole, this variety resembles lettuce but has a much sharper flavor and is slightly bitter. Commonly used in fresh salads but can be braised or steamed for a side vegetable. Easy to grow. When and Where to Plant- Direct sow around your last frost date in the spring or for a fall crop sow in late summer. Prefers lightly amended soils and a sunny location. Care and Harvest- Water often, as a lack of water will make them more bitter. Cut right above soil level for continuous harvest. If harvesting in the fall, make sure to harvest before frost. Planting Depth- 1/8" Seed Spacing- 6" Spacing Between Rows- 30-36" Days to Germination- 5-12 Plant Spacing- 12" Days to Maturity- 60-80 Approximate Seeds per Pkt- 1,500
