barkcloth + sisal clutch

handmade from barkcloth and sisal, this clutch is unique and timeless. the braided sisal strands of pink, purple, and cream create such a nice pop of color and visual interest to anything you pair it with. traditionally the craft of barkcloth making comes from the baganda royal family in uganda. details materials: barkcloth and sisal fibers measurements: 9.25 x 5.25" about the artisan Ms.Tina has taught herself the long-ago tradition of barkcloth. Once only available to the royals of Uganda, barkcloth is culturally valued and adored because of its history and has found a new place with both its products and storytelling. Bark is sustainably and carefully harvested from the inner-layer of the Mutuba Tree, also known as Barkcloth Fig, in a process that has changed very little through the generations. The bark is removed, soaked in water dried and then beaten until it reaches its soft, fabric-like texture. The tree is then wrapped and cared for, for its regrowth process. Uganda remains one of the few countries within the continent to keep the barkcloth tradition alive.
