Barbara Mitchell Daylily

Barbara Mitchell Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Barbara Mitchell')Barbara Mitchell Daylily is a classic soft pink daylily that brings an elegant and calming look to the summer garden. Its broad flowers and refined color make it especially useful where you want dependable bloom without the louder tones of brighter reds, oranges, or yellows. This award-winning variety has remained popular for decades because it combines beauty, reliability, and easy garden performance in one plant. In sunny borders, mixed perennial beds, and mass plantings, it adds a graceful and polished layer of summer color. Distinctive FeaturesBarbara Mitchell Daylily is prized for its large soft pink flowers with a green throat and gently ruffled petals. The blooms are typically about 6 inches across and are carried on scapes around 20 inches tall above semi-evergreen arching foliage. It is a midseason bloomer with rebloom potential, which helps extend the display beyond a single flush in favorable conditions. Its soft self-colored flowers make it one of the most widely admired pink daylilies and a long-time garden standard. Growing Conditions Sun: Plant in full sun for the best flowering, though light shade is tolerated, especially in hotter regions. Soil: Grow in average, well-drained soil, though it adapts well to a wide range of garden soils. Water: Provide moderate water during establishment, then maintain average moisture, with best flowering from more consistent moisture. Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 9. Habit: Expect a clump-forming perennial with arching semi-evergreen strap-like foliage and upright flower scapes. Ideal Uses Perennial Borders: Use it in sunny mixed borders where the soft pink flowers can lighten stronger summer color combinations. Focal Point: Place it in a visible section of the bed where its large pastel blooms can create a graceful seasonal highlight. Mass Planting: Plant it in groups where repeated blooms can create a broad sweep of soft summer color. Foundation Planting: Use it in sunny foundation beds where its tidy clumping habit and elegant flowers bring a refined look. Cutting Gardens: Grow it where the large blooms can also be enjoyed in fresh arrangements during the flowering season. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Water regularly during establishment, then provide supplemental moisture during extended dry periods for best bloom performance. Deadheading: Remove spent blooms and old scapes to keep the plant tidy and improve appearance through the season. Division: Divide clumps every few years if needed to maintain vigor and support strong flowering. Cleanup: Remove worn foliage in late season or early spring to refresh the clump. Feeding: A light spring feeding can support healthy foliage and repeat bloom without pushing excessive soft growth. Why Choose Barbara Mitchell Daylily?
