For Heaven's Sake

This original banner for the 1950 fantasy comedy "For Heaven's Sake" showcases the star power of 20th Century Fox at its peak. The striking horizontal format features a tender photographic portrait of Clifton Webb and Joan Bennett, their chemistry evident even in black and white, set against bold orange and navy graphics that command attention from across any lobby. The film stars Webb as an angel sent to help a childless couple, with Edmund Gwenn (fresh from his Oscar-winning turn in "Miracle on 34th Street") and Robert Cummings rounding out the celestial cast. Such heavenly comedies were a popular subgenre in the post-war years, offering audiences lighthearted escapism with a touch of the divine. Banners of this horizontal format are considerably scarcer than standard one-sheets, as their unwieldy dimensions made them difficult to store and most were simply discarded after theatrical runs. This example survives as a vibrant document of early 1950s Hollywood showmanship, its bold color scheme and dimensional typography exemplifying the eye-catching promotional art of the era. Size: 24.0" x 82.0" Condition: Good, Areas of background scuffs and small repaired tears. Areas of localized scuffing.
