Balkan Athletics Games, Official Program

This original 1956 program was created for the XV Balkan Athletics Games held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia from July 20 to 22, 1956. The design embodies the clean, modern aesthetic of mid-century sports graphics, combining bold geometry with powerful silhouettes that symbolize speed, strength, and unity. The Balkan Athletics Games were a major regional sporting event, bringing together athletes from across Southeastern Europe in a spirit of international cooperation and competition. Taking place in the postwar era, the games reflected Yugoslavia’s growing cultural prominence and its role as a bridge between East and West during the Cold War. Printed in Yugoslavia, the cover design uses the red, white, and blue of the national palette to create a striking sense of motion and patriotism. The figures of the runner and thrower emphasize both individual discipline and collective achievement, capturing the optimism of an era defined by athletic progress and regional solidarity.
