The 8x8 Aztec Lion tile was part of a collection of animal tiles designed by Pewabic co-founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton in the mid-1920s. Aztec imagery was very popular at the time, and many historic architectural examples can still be seen today. The Guardian Building in downtown Detroit is a prime example. This Aztec Lion design was also used in Detroit area schools for fireplace installations, drinking fountains, and classroom goldfish ponds. 8” x 8” Handcrafted in Detroit Individually hand-pressed in our own stoneware and glazed by Pewabic artisans Pewabic logo stamped on back Slight variations in glaze and firing results ensure each handcrafted Pewabic piece is one of a kind Pictured with the 3x3 Lion Tile Available in Sky and Dusk
