Lockbolts have many advantages over traditional nut and bolts: Lockbolts have as little as 5% variation in clamp load measurement, while traditional nuts & bolts have up to 40% variation in clamp load measurement (torque) The lockbolt pins and collars are swaged, which creates a permanent & vibration resistant bond.  With traditional nuts & bolts the assembly may come loose with vibration and may need to be retightened
