Auriga Butterflyfish

The Auriga Butterflyfish is a stunning marine centerpiece featuring bright yellow coloration, distinctive black markings, and an elegant trailing filament from the dorsal fin. This Indo-Pacific native thrives in established marine aquariums with plenty of swimming space and live rock for hiding and foraging. An omnivore with hearty appetite, it feeds on mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped marine foods, and quality preparations with spirulina or marine algae. Newly introduced specimens benefit from frequent small feedings during acclimation. Moderately adaptable for a butterflyfish, it tolerates peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates in sufficiently large systems but can be territorial toward similar species. However, it is not reef safe and will pick at stony and soft corals, anemones, and invertebrates, making it best suited for fish-only or fish-only-with-live-rock setups. **Scientific Name:** *Chaetodon auriga* **Care Level:** Moderate **Temperament:** Peaceful to Semi-Aggressive **Diet:** Omnivore **Adult Size:** 8–9 Inches **Minimum Tank Size:** 125 Gallons **Reef Safe:** No **Temperature:** 74–80°F **Origin:** Indo-Pacific Ideal for aquarists seeking a colorful, active addition to a larger fish-only marine system.
