Choose based on fabric weight and stitch density. Machine Embroidery (Dense or Decorative Designs) 80/12 Embroidery Needle The slightly larger eye of an embroidery needle helps protect fine thread during dense or decorative stitching pattern Hand Stitching Size 10 or 11 Straw, Sharps, or Appliqué Needle These needle sizes provide excellent control for English Paper Piecing and hand appliqué while allowing the thread to glide smoothly through fabric. Tips for Best Results Aurifil 80wt performs best when handled gently and used for the techniques it was designed for. For hand sewing, use short thread lengths (12”–18”) to reduce tangling and wear Use a clean, sharp needle to maintain smooth stitch formation Slightly lower top tension for machine stitching Ideal for bobbin use when minimal stitch visibility is desired Best suited for fine detail work rather than long structural seams Care & Washing Instructions Aurifil 80wt cotton thread is colorfast and suitable for everyday quilt and garment care. To ensure consistent results across all colors, we recommend the following universal care guidelines: Machine wash in cold water Use mild detergent; avoid bleach Tumble dry on low heat or air dry Iron on low heat if needed These conservative care instructions are safe for all Aurifil 80wt colors and help preserve stitch integrity over time.
