Audio Wave — Active Series Active 250 Full-Range Monoblock Amplifier Handcrafted in England  ·  Exclusively Available at Audio Intensity Reference SQ Up to 450W RMS 8 / 4 / 2 Ohm Stable SNR -124dB 9.5Hz – 120kHz 24k Gold Connectors Bridgeable — Two Units 3-Year Warranty The Most Serious Small Amplifier Ever Made. Audio Wave Ltd operates out of England with a singular philosophy: build the finest amplifiers in the world, without exception. The Active 250 is the entry point into that philosophy — a full-range monoblock measuring just 360mm x 152mm x 80mm, producing up to 450 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and measuring a signal-to-noise ratio of -124dB. At $2,499, it is priced where it is because nothing about it was designed around a cost target. Grant Hanan, the designer and owner of Audio Wave, spent two years developing the power supply capacitors in the Active 250 because no commercially available component met his specifications. Every power and speaker connector is CNC-milled on-site and plated with 24-karat gold at the Audio Wave facility. The chassis top is plexiglass — not as a gimmick, but as an invitation to look at the internal construction and understand what you're actually buying. This is not an amplifier for someone who wants impressive specifications on paper. It is an amplifier for someone who wants to hear the difference those specifications make. 450W RMS @ 2 Ohm / 16V -124 dB SNR A-Weighted 120k Hz Bandwidth 24k Gold Connectors Built to a Standard, Not a Price. Every detail of the Active 250 reflects decisions made for sonic performance — not manufacturing convenience. The result is an amplifier that is as remarkable to examine as it is to listen to. Plexiglass Window Top The transparent top panel is a statement of confidence. It exists so you can see exactly what you paid for — the precise internal layout, custom component placement, and hand-assembled construction that define every Audio Wave amplifier. Nothing is hidden because nothing needs to be. Bespoke Power Supply Capacitors After two years of development, Grant Hanan found that no off-the-shelf capacitor could meet his tolerances for the Active line. Audio Wave manufactures its own — custom-spec'd and built exclusively for their amplifiers. This single component is central to the power stability and transient response that define the Active 250's sound character. 24k Gold-Plated Connections Every power and speaker connector on the Active 250 is CNC-milled in-house at the Audio Wave facility, then plated with 24-karat gold on-site. The result is a mechanically perfect fit with no oxidation risk and optimal conductivity at every connection point — the kind of detail that matters most over years of use. Full-Range Monoblock Architecture The Active 250 operates full-range — 9.5Hz to 120kHz — making it equally at home on a high-excursion subwoofer, a set of midrange drivers, or a full-range speaker in a two-channel build. It bridges with a second unit for applications demanding up to 680W RMS at 4 ohms. The Measurements Behind the Sound. Audio Wave publishes honest specifications — measured at 0.1% THD, not the inflated figures common to the category. What those numbers represent in practice is an amplifier with remarkable dynamic headroom, vanishingly low noise, and a bandwidth that resolves detail most car audio amplifiers are simply incapable of reproducing. Signal-to-Noise Ratio The Active 250 measures -124dB SNR A-weighted at full power output. At 1-watt output — the level at which most music is actually played in a car — the SNR measures -106dB at 8 ohms and -102dB at 4 ohms. The amplifier is effectively silent below the signal. In a well-constructed SQ system, this matters enormously. Bandwidth 9.5Hz to 120kHz at -2dB is not a specification that exists to impress on paper. A bandwidth that extends cleanly to 120kHz means the amplifier is not introducing phase shift, compression, or rolloff within any frequency range your system will actually use. The musical information arrives intact. Distortion THD+N measures 0.0001% at 1 watt across 8, 4, and 2-ohm loads. IMD measures 0.0043% at 60Hz/7kHz. These are reference-grade figures that benchmark favorably against dedicated home audio amplification — in a chassis designed for automotive installation. Bridged Configuration Two Active 250 units bridged at 16V deliver 400W RMS into 8 ohms and 680W RMS into 4 ohms — at the same 0.1% THD threshold. For high-sensitivity speaker builds or demanding subwoofer applications where a single amplifier is not enough, bridging two Active 250s is the correct path. Who the Active 250 Is For. The Active 250 is not a mass-market amplifier. Audio Wave produces in limited quantities, by hand, to tolerances that a production line cannot maintain. Each unit is built to order and reflects the direct involvement of the designer at every stage of construction. It is the right choice for an SQ competitor who needs amplification that does not add anything to the signal. It is the right choice for a music enthusiast building a reference-grade system in a dedicated vehicle and demanding components that belong in that conversation. It is the right choice for an installer building a client's flagship build where every part of the system needs to be the best available at that position in the chain. At $2,499, the Active 250 occupies a tier where price is not the primary filter. The question is simply whether your build warrants amplification at this level. SQ Competition The -124dB SNR, 0.0001% THD+N, and 9.5Hz–120kHz bandwidth are specifications that belong in a competition rulebook. When judges are listening for exactly what the amplifier adds — the Active 250 adds nothing. Reference Home-to-Car Builds The Active 250 bridges the technical gap between the best car audio amplification and dedicated home audio reference equipment. For audiophiles who refuse to compromise that standard in their vehicle, it is the correct starting point. Flagship Installer Builds For the professional installer building a client's high-budget system, the Active 250 is an amplifier you can confidently specify knowing it will not be the limiting factor in the system — today or five years from now. Bridged High-Power Applications Two Active 250 units bridged at 16V produce 680W RMS at 4 ohms with the same distortion and noise floor as a single unit. For demanding subwoofer loads or high-sensitivity full-range builds requiring headroom, this is the correct path. Warranty & Service. The Active 250 carries a 3-year warranty — a figure that reflects Audio Wave's confidence in their construction and component selection. Warranty claims in the Active line are exceptionally rare, which is itself a data point about the build quality and the care with which each unit is assembled before it leaves the facility. 3 YearWarranty Serviced in England by Audio Wave Directly In the unlikely event of a warranty service need, the Active 250 is returned to Audio Wave Ltd in the UK for direct service by the team that built it. There are no third-party repair centers, no authorized service networks, and no ambiguity about who touches your amplifier. The unit goes back to the source. Audio Intensity handles all warranty coordination — contact us directly and we will manage the process on your behalf from start to finish. The Active 250. Engineered Without Compromise.
