Atomic Backland Pro W Alpine Touring Boot

Women's All-Round Touring Boot on a 98 mm Last Atomic Backland Pro W Alpine Touring Boot The Atomic Backland Pro W is a women's all-round touring boot for skiers who want a light, fittable boot for everyday backcountry outings. A carbon loaded polyurethane shell holds a moderate flex at 1,056 g per boot in a 24/24.5, and a low cuff clears a smaller calf without a spoiler. With 74 degrees of cuff rotation on a 98 mm narrow last and a size run starting at 22/22.5, the Backland Pro W fits feet the rest of the line does not. Polyurethane is the most workable shell material in the Backland line, so this is the boot we reach for on a foot that needs punching. At 1,056 g per boot in a 24/24.5 the Backland Pro W is light enough for long days without giving up the fit range of a PU shell. 74 degrees of cuff rotation matches every other boot in the Backland line, including the carbon models. Best Uses Everyday backcountry touring on skis 90 to 105 mm wide Skiers needing a size run that starts at 22/22.5 Narrow, low-volume feet on a 98 mm last that need fit work Pin binding setups only Bootfitter's Advice The Backland Pro W runs a 98 mm last, narrow and low volume, with a low cuff across the whole size run and a ramp angle of 4 degrees. The low cuff is the reason to choose it over the unisex Backland Pro, since it clears a smaller calf without fit work. Confirm size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number. After fitting a lot of women tourers, we find calf shape decides this boot more often than foot shape does. The carbon loaded PU shell and PU cuff both accept heat and punching well, so a sixth toe or a navicular that would rule out a carbon-cuffed boot is workable here, and the 3D Gold Tour liner is heat-moldable. Final sizing should be confirmed with a shell fit whenever possible. 📏 Technical Specifications Manufacturer specs · Click to expand Fit and Construction Weight1,056 g per boot (size 24/24.5) Last98 mm, narrow width and low volume Range of Motion74 degrees ShellCarbon loaded PU, a polyurethane reinforced with carbon fiber CuffPolyurethane (PU), low height across the size run Forward Lean13, 15 (default), and 17 degrees Ramp Angle4 degrees Size Range22/22.5 to 27/27.5 Features and Compatibility Walk ModeFree/Lock 4.0 with Frictionless Pivot, 74 degrees of cuff rotation Shell ClosureCross Lace 2.0, a Z-cable routed through the lower buckle Cuff Closure7000-series aluminum tour buckles with a 30 mm velcro strap Liner3D Gold Tour, heat-moldable and washable, with Dura Shield SoleSkywalk non-norm sole with investment cast tech inserts Binding CompatibilityPin/tech (low-tech) bindings only. Foot width usually decides it. Shop the Scarpa Gea Common Questions Who should buy the Atomic Backland Pro W? Women tourers on skis 90 to 105 mm wide who want a light everyday backcountry boot on pin bindings. The Atomic Backland Pro W suits a narrow, low-volume foot, a smaller calf, and anyone needing a size below 24/24.5. What bindings work with the Atomic Backland Pro W? The sole is a Skywalk Non-Norm sole with investment cast tech inserts. Pin/tech (low-tech) bindings only. The sole meets no ISO norm, so it is not compatible with alpine, GripWalk, frame, or MNC bindings. Check the binding, not the boot, if you are unsure: if it does not take pins, it does not take this boot. How is the Atomic Backland Pro W different from the unisex Backland Pro? The Atomic Backland Pro W uses a low cuff across the whole size run and starts at 22/22.5, where the unisex Atomic Backland Pro uses a regular cuff and starts at 24/24.5. The shell, the 98 mm last, the 74 degrees of rotation, and the non-norm sole are shared. Can the Atomic Backland Pro W be punched and molded? Yes, and more freely than the carbon boots in the line. The carbon loaded PU shell and PU cuff both accept heat and punching, and the 3D Gold Tour liner is heat-moldable. We mold the liner as standard. How does the sizing run on the Atomic Backland Pro W? The Atomic Backland Pro W covers two Mondo sizes per shell and runs from 22/22.5 to 27/27.5 on a narrow 98 mm last. Confirm your size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number. Will the Atomic Backland Pro W fit a larger calf? The low cuff is cut to clear a smaller calf, so a larger calf may find it tight at the top. The unisex Atomic Backland Pro uses a regular cuff and is the better starting point in that case, provided the size run reaches far enough down. Our Verdict The Atomic Backland Pro W is a women's touring boot that solves calf fit at the shell rather than by removing parts. It weighs 1,056 g per boot at 24/24.5, tours with 74 degrees of cuff rotation, and its polyurethane shell and cuff take the heat and punching that carbon-cuffed boots refuse. The flex is moderate, the 98 mm last is narrow, and the non-norm sole runs pin bindings only. For a narrow foot and a smaller calf on a dedicated touring setup, this is a great boot.
