Atomic Backland Pro Alpine Touring Boot

All-Round Touring Boot on a 98 mm Last Atomic Backland Pro Alpine Touring Boot The Atomic Backland Pro is an all-round touring boot for skiers who want a light, fittable boot for everyday backcountry days. A carbon loaded PU shell and PU cuff hold a moderate flex at 1,166 g per boot in a 26/26.5, and polyurethane is the material we can work the hardest on a difficult foot. With 74 degrees of cuff rotation on a 98 mm narrow last, the Backland Pro trades the carbon cuff of its siblings for fit range and a lower price. Expert Fit Review Fit profile and recommendations reviewed by CCBB bootfitters. Is This the Right Boot for You? Best For Tourers on skis 90 to 105 mm wide who want a light everyday touring boot on pin bindings, and who expect to need some fit work. Consider Another Boot If You want the firmer flex of a carbon cuff, you need a sole that fits frame or MNC bindings, or your foot needs a 100 mm or wider last. At 1,166 g per boot in a 26/26.5 it is 13 g lighter than the Backland Carbon, so the fit range costs nothing in weight. 74 degrees of cuff rotation matches every boot in the Backland line, including those weighing up to 184 g less. The 3D Gold Tour liner and Memory Fit shell both take heat, so the whole boot can be shaped rather than only the liner. Best Uses Everyday backcountry touring on skis 90 to 105 mm wide Skiers who have struggled to fit narrow carbon touring boots Long days where stride matters more than maximum flex Narrow, low-volume feet on a 98 mm last that need fit work Pin binding setups only Bootfitter's Advice The Backland Pro runs a 98 mm last, narrow and low volume, with a regular-height cuff and a ramp angle of 4 degrees. Confirm size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number. The boot ships with a size adjuster and liner laces. This is the Backland we can do the most fit work on. A carbon loaded PU shell and a PU cuff both accept heat and punching well, where the carbon fiber cuffs on the Carbon and Carbon UL accept none, so a sixth toe, a bunion, or a navicular that would rule out those boots is workable here. The 3D Gold Tour liner is heat-moldable and we mold it as standard. Fit profile reviewed by CCBB bootfitters. Final sizing should be confirmed with a shell fit whenever possible. 📏 Technical Specifications Manufacturer specs · Click to expand Fit and Construction Weight1,166 g per boot (size 26/26.5) Last98 mm, narrow width and low volume Range of Motion74 degrees ShellCarbon loaded PU, a polyurethane reinforced with carbon fiber CuffPolyurethane (PU), regular height across the size run Forward Lean13, 15 (default), and 17 degrees Ramp Angle4 degrees Size Range24/24.5 to 30/30.5 Features and Compatibility Walk ModeFree/Lock 4.0 with Frictionless Pivot, 74 degrees of cuff rotation Shell ClosureCross Lace 2.0, a Z-cable routed through the lower buckle Cuff Closure7000-series aluminum tour buckles with a 30 mm velcro strap Liner3D Gold Tour, heat-moldable and washable, with Dura Shield SoleSkywalk non-norm sole with investment cast tech inserts Binding CompatibilityPin/tech (low-tech) bindings only. The Atomic Backland Carbon uses a carbon fiber cuff for a firmer flex. The Backland Pro uses polyurethane, which we can punch and heat far more freely. Fit needs decide this more often than flex does. Shop the Atomic Backland Carbon Backland Pro vs. Atomic Backland Pro W The Atomic Backland Pro W shares the shell, the 98 mm last, and the non-norm sole, and adds a low cuff for a smaller calf and a size run from 22/22.5. It weighs 1,056 g per boot at 24/24.5. Cuff height and size run separate them rather than performance. Shop the Atomic Backland Pro W Backland Pro vs. Scarpa F1 Both are light all-round touring boots on pin bindings. The Scarpa F1 uses a BOA forefoot and a wider last. The Atomic Backland Pro runs a narrow 98 mm last with a polyurethane shell that takes more fit work than most boots at this weight. Shop the Scarpa F1 Common Questions Who should buy the Atomic Backland Pro? Tourers on skis 90 to 105 mm wide who want a light everyday backcountry boot on pin bindings, particularly anyone who has struggled to fit the carbon boots in this class. The Atomic Backland Pro suits a narrow, low-volume foot that needs some shell work. What bindings work with the Atomic Backland Pro? The sole is a Skywalk Non-Norm sole with investment cast tech inserts. Pin/tech (low-tech) bindings only. The sole meets no ISO norm, so it is not compatible with alpine, GripWalk, frame, or MNC bindings. Check the binding, not the boot, if you are unsure: if it does not take pins, it does not take this boot. Can the Atomic Backland Pro be punched and molded? Yes, and more freely than any other boot in the Backland line. The carbon loaded PU shell and PU cuff both accept heat and punching, where the carbon fiber cuffs on the Carbon and Carbon UL accept none. The 3D Gold Tour liner is heat-moldable. What flex is the Atomic Backland Pro? Atomic publishes no numeric flex index for the Atomic Backland Pro, and we do not assign one. The polyurethane shell and cuff give a moderate, forgiving flex, softer than the Atomic Backland Carbon and well short of the 120-flex Backland XTD Carbon 120. How does the sizing run on the Atomic Backland Pro? The Atomic Backland Pro covers two Mondo sizes per shell and runs from 24/24.5 to 30/30.5 on a narrow 98 mm last. Confirm your size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number. Is the Atomic Backland Pro a good first touring boot? It is a reasonable one for a skier committing to pin bindings. The 74 degrees of cuff rotation and 1,166 g per boot make long days comfortable, and the workable shell means a fitter can solve most problems. The non-norm sole is the constraint: it runs pin bindings and nothing else, so it does not double as a resort boot. Our Verdict The Atomic Backland Pro is the most fittable boot in the Backland line and gives up less than its price suggests. It weighs 1,166 g per boot at 26/26.5, tours with 74 degrees of cuff rotation, and its polyurethane shell and cuff take the heat and punching that the carbon boots refuse. The flex is moderate rather than firm, and the non-norm sole runs pin bindings only. For a narrow foot that needs work, this is the Backland we recommend first.
