How to Fill Your Atlas Sandbag 📋 Click to View Step-by-Step Filling Instructions What you'll need: Dry play sand (available at hardware stores) Bathroom or postal scale Optional: Rubber mulch (if you want to firm up a loose bag) Step-by-step process: Take sandbag out of package Open Velcro top, unzip, and pull out the integrated internal funnel Open funnel and push your hand into the bag to ensure the internal bag completely opens inside Roll down the funnel sides one time to help keep it open while filling Start pouring in your sand slowly to avoid spills Occasionally stop and lift the bag by either side of the "mouth" of the opening (not the funnel), then drop it a few times to pack down the sand and fill all crevices As the sand gets toward the top, push your hand into the bag and push sand toward the sides to leave a hole in the middle for the remaining sand (repeat this multiple times) Place the sandbag on a scale as you get close to the top to ensure accurate weight When at desired weight, close the Velcro funnel tightly and roll it down to the second strip of Velcro Push the funnel fabric down into the zipper opening and pull the zipper closed Press the Velcro tops together (when properly closed you should not be able to see any Velcro) Start training! ⚠️ Important: Make sure to pack the sand down as you fill and push it into the sides near the top. If you don't, the bag will not hold the correct weight and will become floppy during use. Frequently Asked Questions What's the difference between Atlas Sandbags and traditional Atlas stones? Atlas Sandbags are sand-filled training tools designed to replicate the feel and challenge of traditional Atlas stones, with these key differences: Suitable for home use (won't damage floors) Portable and stackable Adjustable weight Clean, low-maintenance design More accessible price point The sand-filled design creates dynamic, shifting weight that challenges stabilizer muscles while being safer and more versatile for home training. Should I buy Atlas Sandbags or Strongman Sandbags? Choose Atlas Sandbags if: You specifically want to train Atlas stone movements (ground-to-shoulder lifts, over-shoulder throws, stone loading) or you're preparing for strongman competitions. Choose Strongman Sandbags if: You want maximum exercise variety for full-body training (carries, cleans, squats, presses, rows, etc.). Many athletes own both — they complement each other perfectly for complete strongman and functional strength training. What should I fill my Atlas Sandbag with? We recommend dry play sand, available at hardware stores. We do not recommend using wet or damp sand as it makes filling the bags more difficult and makes the bags retain moisture which can cause the fabric to feel damp when using. Pro tip: If your bag feels loose after filling, add rubber mulch to take up extra space without adding significant weight. Can I drop or throw my Atlas Sandbag? Yes! Atlas Sandbags are built to endure repeated drops and throws. That's exactly what they're designed for. For best longevity, use them on rubber flooring or non-abrasive surfaces. Avoid concrete or rough surfaces that can cause excessive wear. What size Atlas Sandbag should I buy? Beginners: Start with 50-100 lbs to learn proper form Intermediate: 100-150 lbs for working sets Advanced: 200-300 lbs for competition prep and max effort training Do you offer a warranty? Yes! All Atlas Sandbags come with a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Please visit our Refund & Return Policy page for full warranty details. Why do my bags feel loose or tight after filling? The feel of your Atlas Sandbag depends on the type and density of sand used, how well you packed it during filling, and whether the material has stretched with use yet. If too loose: Add rubber mulch to take up space without adding weight, or continue training — the material will conform to the sand and firm up naturally. If too tight: Use the bag for a few sessions before adding more sand. The material will stretch slightly with use. What is the best atlas sandbag brand?
