ATK Newmark Lite Telemark binding

Lightweight NTN Telemark Touring Binding ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding The ATK Newmark Lite is an NTN telemark binding for skiers who tour for their turns and want the climb to feel like a tech-toe setup rather than a plate binding. The boot engages through its tech toe fittings while a spring-loaded claw takes the NTN second heel, and the whole spring-and-claw cartridge slides off for the ascent so the hardware is not on your feet going uphill. At 340 g per binding in machined 7075 aluminium and stainless steel, with one flat position and one 28 mm riser, it is built for NTN skiers covering distance who still want a real telemark turn at the top. Expert Review Specifications verified by CCBB staff. Telemark bindings carry no certified release. Is This the Right Binding for You? Best For Telemark skiers on NTN boots with tech toe fittings who tour for their turns and want a light, metal binding with a free pivot on the climb. Consider Another Binding If Your boots are 75 mm, or NTN without tech toe fittings. You also want a powerful, highly active binding: the standard spring is soft. The Telelever handles uphill and downhill modes from a single lever at the front of the toe piece, so there is no second mechanism under the boot to ice up or fail. Machined 7075 aluminium, stainless steel and POM with no fibreglass plates, which is the part of a telemark binding that historically splinters and ends a day. The binding ships with spring spacers, so activity is adjustable rather than fixed at whatever the standard spring gives. Best Uses Telemark touring where the climb matters as much as the turn Long approaches on NTN gear Skiers moving to NTN from a heavier plate binding Firm and icy skin tracks, using ATK ski crampons Mounting and Setup Advice Check your boots before ordering. This binding engages through the boot’s tech toe fittings, so an NTN boot without tech toe fittings will not work in it, and neither will a 75 mm three-pin boot. The cartridge position is then set for a small or large NTN sole: on Scarpa the break point falls between 26 and 26.5. Bring the boots when you bring the skis. Two things to know about setup. The climbing riser is not optional if you leave the cartridge on the ski, because the cartridge holds the heel down without it. And the standard spring is on the soft side, which suits smooth, low-resistance telemark skiing; heavier or more aggressive skiers should plan on fitting the spacers or asking about a stiffer spring before the first day out. Construction 7075 aluminium, stainless steel and POM Warranty 2 years Compare the ATK Newmark Lite Newmark Lite vs. ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Binding The ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Binding is this binding with a tech heel unit added, letting a compatible boot lock down for parallel skiing. It costs 100 g per binding, 440 g against 340 g here, and it needs an NTN boot with a rear tech fitting as well as a tech toe. Buy the Freelock if you want the option of a fixed heel. Shop the ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Binding Newmark Lite vs. ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Heel The ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Heel is the 160 g heel unit on its own, mounted behind a Newmark Lite. It is the upgrade path rather than an alternative: start with this binding and add the heel later if a fixed-heel option turns out to matter. Shop the ATK Newmark Lite Freelock Heel Newmark Lite vs. Scarpa TX Pro Not an alternative, a partner. The Scarpa TX Pro is the NTN boot most of our telemark customers pair with a binding like this, and it is the boot ATK uses to describe the small and large sole break point. Check that whichever NTN boot you choose has tech toe fittings. Shop the Scarpa TX Pro Common Questions Who should buy the ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding? The ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding suits telemark skiers who tour and want the climb to feel like a tech-toe touring setup rather than a plate binding. At 340 g per binding on machined aluminium and steel, with a free tech-toe pivot and a cartridge that comes off for the ascent, it is built for NTN skiers who count grams and still want a real telemark turn. What boots work with the ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding? NTN telemark boots that have tech toe fittings. The boot connects through those fittings and a spring-loaded claw engages the NTN second heel. An NTN boot without tech toe fittings will not work, and neither will a 75 mm three-pin boot. The cartridge position is then configured for a small or large NTN sole, with the Scarpa break point between 26 and 26.5. Check your specific boot with us before ordering. Does the ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding release? How does the ATK Newmark Lite Telemark Binding tour? Two ways. You can slide the spring-and-claw cartridge off entirely, which leaves the boot pivoting on the tech toe and takes the telemark hardware off the ski, or you can leave the cartridge on and raise the climbing riser. If you leave the cartridge on you must use the riser, because the cartridge holds the heel down otherwise. There is one flat position and one 28 mm riser. Can I change how active the binding feels? Yes. It ships with spring spacers so activity can be adjusted rather than fixed by the standard spring, and ATK has indicated softer and stiffer spring options. The standard spring is on the soft side, which suits a smooth, low-resistance turn. Heavier or more aggressive skiers will probably want more resistance. Does it take ski crampons or brakes? Ski crampons yes, brakes no. There is an integrated receptor for ATK ski crampons, which is worth having on a firm skin track. The binding has no brakes and none are offered, so a leash is the only retention if the boot comes out of the binding. How is the weight figure on this page sourced? ATK gives 340 g per binding and 680 g per pair. We have not weighed a production pair ourselves yet, and early figures varied depending on whether screws and mounting hardware were counted, so treat it as ATK’s figure rather than our measurement. It does reconcile across the three products in the family, which is a good sign. We will publish our own number once we have weighed a pair. Our Verdict The ATK Newmark Lite is the binding that makes NTN touring feel like touring. A free tech-toe pivot with a cartridge that slides off for the climb, 340 g per binding, machined aluminium and steel instead of fibreglass plates, and a single Telelever handling both modes add up to a telemark binding built around the ascent rather than despite it. Two things to be clear about. It needs an NTN boot with tech toe fittings, which rules out some NTN boots entirely. And like every telemark binding it has no certified release, so the adjustable toe retention changes how firmly the boot is held and nothing else. For NTN skiers who want to cover ground, it is a genuinely interesting piece of engineering.
