Athena Unbound Hair Tie

There's a version of Athena most people never see. Not the armored goddess on the shield, not the marble bust behind museum glass — but the one before all that. The one who was wisdom before wisdom had a temple. Wild-haired, uncontained, belonging to no frieze and no pediment. Just power, unframed. The ancient Greeks understood that their gods existed in layers — the official, the devotional, the personal. Athena carried more epithets than almost any other deity because no single image could hold her. She was Athena Promachos, champion of the front line. Athena Ergane, patron of craft. Athena Parthenos, the untouchable. But before any of those titles were carved in stone, she was simply the force that made people pause, think, and then act with purpose. The sculptors who first depicted her weren't illustrating a myth — they were trying to catch something they'd felt. Oberon Design, working from their studio in Santa Rosa, California, has spent decades translating that kind of mythic weight into objects you can actually live with. This hair tie is cast in Britannia metal — a pewter-family alloy with a soft, antiqued silver finish that feels like something pulled from an archaeological dig in the best possible way. At two inches wide and an inch and a quarter tall, the medallion has genuine sculptural presence without tipping into costume. The whole piece weighs just 12 grams, and the metal is hypoallergenic, so it sits comfortably against the skin all day. An elastic band threads through the back, securing the piece while keeping your hair exactly where you want it. That's the quiet paradox here — an image of the goddess unbound, holding everything together. Handcrafted by Oberon Design.
