Depicted together in various ways, the crescent moon and solar star has been used in various historical contexts worldwide - Most notably today in Islam.  Along the east African coast Eritrea, Sudan, Egypt - The Crescent moon in the upward position doubles as cattle horn iconography, both iterations are signifiers of divine feminine energy and life giving sustenance. Through the  Aster (ዐስተር) talisman I wanted to re-enforce these symbols as current sites of indigenous votive worship, not relics of the past, ones that are rooted in the African pantheon that live on a continuum.
