Baffle box comforters are also more fluffy because the fill is able to absorb more air and move around, giving the comforter a softer, loftier feel.  Sewn-through Design Comforters (sometimes called Bavarian Design) The top and bottom layer of the comforter are simply sewn together to create pockets of fill.  It’s much harder to create evenly distributed fill with this method, meaning that cold pockets of thin fill may be present, as well as large uneven clumps. Heat also easily escapes through the sewing, as there is nothing but the thread holding it back. Additionally, sewn-through pockets are much smaller than baffle boxes and restrict the fill’s ability to move and remain fluffy.
