Artisan Red Ombre Coneflower

Artisan Red Ombre Coneflower (Echinacea x 'PAS1257973')Artisan Red Ombre Coneflower brings long-lasting summer color with rich red blooms that soften as they mature, giving the plant a layered, shifting look over time. Its compact, upright habit fits easily into perennial borders, pollinator plantings, and patio containers without overwhelming nearby plants. This coneflower offers the classic durability gardeners expect from echinacea, including good heat tolerance and dependable performance in sunny locations. It is an easy way to add bold color, seasonal texture, and wildlife value to the landscape. Distinctive FeaturesThis hybrid coneflower forms a sturdy clump of dark green foliage topped by large daisy-like flowers with deep red petals that gradually age to softer rosy tones around prominent coppery orange to brown cones. It typically grows in a well-branched, upright mound about 24 to 34 inches tall and 10 to 25 inches wide, with bloom beginning in early summer and often continuing into late summer, with occasional repeat bloom into fall. The flowers are highly attractive to butterflies and bees, and spent seed heads may later draw birds to the garden. Growing Conditions Sun: Plant in full sun for the strongest stems, best flowering, and most compact habit. Soil: Grow in average, well-drained soil, including sandy or lean soils, and avoid poorly drained sites. Water: Provide regular water during establishment, then maintain with light to moderate moisture, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 10. Habit: This variety has a compact, upright, clump-forming habit with strong branching. Season: Expect bloom from early summer into late summer, sometimes extending sporadically into fall. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use its bold red flowers and strong upright form as a bright focal point in sunny perennial beds and mixed borders. Borders: Tuck it into front to middle border positions where the changing flower color can be appreciated up close. Pollinator Gardens: Include it in butterfly and pollinator plantings to support bees and other beneficial insects through the growing season. Containers: Grow it in large patio containers for a colorful, manageable display with strong seasonal impact. Cut Flowers: Harvest stems for fresh arrangements and leave some spent blooms standing later for garden texture and bird interest. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Water consistently during the first growing season, then reduce frequency once the plant is established. Deadheading: Remove faded flowers to encourage continued bloom and a tidier appearance through summer. Feeding: Apply little to no fertilizer in average soil, since overly rich conditions can reduce sturdy growth. Cleanup: Cut stems back in late fall or late winter, depending on whether you want to keep seed heads for seasonal interest. Division: Divide overcrowded clumps every few years if needed to maintain vigor. Why Choose Artisan Red Ombre Coneflower? Dynamic Color: The flowers open rich red and gradually soften, creating a more varied and interesting display than a flat single-color planting. Compact Size: Its manageable height works well in smaller gardens, tighter borders, and decorative containers. Pollinator Value: The blooms help bring butterflies and bees into the garden during the heart of the summer season. Seasonal Durability: This is a tough perennial that handles heat, sun, and periods of dryness once established. Easy Design Fit: It blends naturally with ornamental grasses, black-eyed Susans, salvias, and other sun-loving perennials. For gardeners who want strong summer color without high maintenance, Artisan Red Ombre Coneflower is a reliable choice that delivers bold bloom, pollinator appeal, and an easy fit in many landscape styles. Its compact habit and evolving flower tones make it especially useful where every plant needs to earn its space.
