Artillery Shell Cello

Click Here for MP3 Demos   [split] Artillery Shell Cello is a unique hand-made instrument created by Dust Bowl Guitars. Based on the concept of a traditional cello, this instrument features an empty metal artillery shell as the body of the instrument! This unique design results in an eerie, shimmering metallic resonance. A standard cello tailpiece and bridge are mounted directly onto the shell body, with the top left open allowing the sound to resonate out. A curved metal rod as been affixed to the open-ended top of the shell, with a traditional cello fingerboard attached to it. Extending up beyond the fingerboard, the metal pole is topped off with a combat helmet featuring a contact mic pickup mounted to the underside. The Artillery Shell Cello was recorded acoustically with large diaphragm condenser microphones as well as the contact pickup.      ► WATCH NOW Artist John Valasis [website] [music] [facebook] Dust Bowl [website] Artillery Shell Cello was recorded by John Valasis. Dust Bowl has been operating and repairing musical instruments since 2010. Our involvement with luthiery began as a challenge, not only in terms of construction but also in creating new sounds. Our need to collect as many musical experiences as possible has led us over the years to be able to repair, maintain and manufacture most of the string and percussion musical instruments. Our goal is to make musical instruments with a particular sound that will challenge the musician and lead to new tunes and orchestrations. Since 2012, when our first musical instrument was born, to this day we have had the honor of collaborating with numerous musicians in Greece and abroad. We are dreaming of a music world where different sounds are a challenge for any musician. This dream created a new chapter for Dust Bowl: Cinematic Musical Instruments.
