ARP Head Stud Kit, BMW S54

The ARP 201-4303 head stud kit is custom-designed for the BMW S54 inline 6-cylinder engine and serves as a replacement for the BMW head bolts 11127831862 commonly found in E46 M3 and E36/7 Z3 M Roadster, Z4 M Coupe and Roadster, and E46 M3 CSL. By installing ARP head studs on an S54 engine, you can enjoy several benefits, including increased clamping force and improved head gasket sealing, which can help prevent head gasket failure. This is especially crucial for high-performance, stroker, supercharged, or turbocharged engines, where increased cylinder pressure can place extra stress on the head gasket and bolts. ARP2000 Strength: 220,000 psi ARP2000 is a heavily alloyed steel that receives special heat treatment and tempering for strength and hardness. ARP2000 is a well-established choice in motorsport and performance applications, as well as standard engine rebuilds. ARP2000 hardware is celebrated by engine builders for its high tensile strength and much greater quality than OEM fasteners. Custom Age 625+ Strength: 280,000 psi ARP’s Custom Age 625+ is a newly formulated super-alloy which offers superior fatigue cycle life, tensile strength, and toughness. CA625+ hardware is celebrated for its high tensile strength and fatigue resistance, making it necessary for stroker, supercharged, and turbocharged applications where elevated cylinder pressures place extra stress on the head gasket and fasteners.  Installation Instructions:  1. To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean ALL threads in the block. Chase if necessary with ARP Thread Chaser. 2. Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installation. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages, plus proper fit, length and dimension. 3. If the cylinder head studs protrude into a water jacket, lubricate the block threads of the studs with ARP THREAD SEALER. 4. Screw studs into the block “HAND TIGHT ONLY”. 5. Install the cylinder head(s) and check for binding or misalignment. 6. Lubricate the stud threads, nuts and washers with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT. Then install the washers and the nuts onto the studs and tighten them hand tight. ARP recommends using the ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT that is provided with each kit as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil or other low quality lubricants are used. PRELOAD (TORQUE) RECOMMENDATIONS 7. Following the manufacturers recommended torque sequence tighten the nuts steps 1-3 ARP2000 Step 1: Tighten to 35 ft-lbs. Step 2: Tighten to 70 ft-lbs. Step 3: Tighten to 105 ft-lbs. with ARP Ultra-Torque fastener assembly lubricant CA 625+ Step 1: Tighten to 35 ft-lbs. Step 2: Tighten to 70 ft-lbs. Step 3: Tighten to 100 ft-lbs. with ARP Ultra-Torque fastener assembly lubricant Bolt Torque Sequence  12  10 4 2 6 8 14 13 7 5 1 3 9 11   Please note: After initial assembly, it is necessary to allow the engine to complete a full heat cycle, then re-torque your head studs to spec. This means allowing the engine to warm up to its normal operating temperature, remain at operating temperature for several minutes to ensure each component is uniformly heated, then turned off and cooled completely to ambient temperature.
