Armchair 406

The Artek Armchair 406, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1939, embodies comfort, balance, and timeless design. With its elegantly curved birch wood frame and airy linen webbing, the Artek Armchair 406 creates a breathable, supportive seat perfect for long hours of lounging, reading, or simply relaxing. The natural materials not only provide comfort but also contribute to the chair’s lightweight and graceful silhouette. What makes this armchair especially unique is the attention to how the wood evolves over time. To maintain structural symmetry, the armrests are crafted from a single piece of birch that is then split, ensuring even aging and a perfectly balanced appearance for decades to come. Versatile enough for the living room, bedroom, or a cozy reading corner, the Artek Armchair 406 blends seamlessly into both modern and traditional interiors. Its gentle flex and supportive webbing make it as functional as it is beautiful. Whether used alone or paired with other Aalto designs, this armchair delivers enduring elegance and craftsmanship. Aalto’s commitment to form, function, and natural materials lives on in every Artek Armchair 406, making it not only a piece of furniture, but a legacy of Scandinavian design.
