Aqua Pollination

Kenny Scharf - Aqua Pollination Kenny Scharf's “Aqua Pollination” (1988) is a silkscreen print on paper measuring 86.3×96.5 cm, is a Unique, Trial Proof, i.e. an experimental preliminary proof before the final version. The work reflects the artist's distinctive style, characterised by a surrealist pop aesthetic and psychedelic influences. The work depicts a dreamlike, fantastic landscape, dominated by purple rock formations with fluid, anthropomorphic shapes. These structures seem almost alive, with smiling faces and bizarre details such as curled moustaches and eccentric accessories. In the centre of the scene, a blue waterfall flows between the rocks, creating a chromatic contrast with the warm tones of the sky. In the background, a rainbow shaded in reds, oranges, yellows, greens and blues intertwines with wavy lines, evoking a psychedelic and surreal atmosphere. The work conveys a sense of playfulness and wonder, typical of Scharf's visual language, which mixes natural and fantastical elements with a vivid palette and cartoon-inspired aesthetics. “Aqua Pollination” suggests an alternative universe, in which nature comes alive in a playful and imaginary dimension, inviting the viewer to plunge into a world suspended between dream and reality.
