Taken from Wright’s graphic design for a Liberty magazine cover (1927-1928) that was never published, this image is an abstract version of springtime rain. The lively combination of squares on a 45 degree angle and the repetitive pattern of circles at the intersections were possibly inspired by Japanese prints he collected. In addition to the repetitive diagonal pattern, two of the squares on the angle represent cages, each of which house an abstract bird shape. Hence, another adaptation of this design was titled The Canary, Bird in the Cage. Set of 4 absorbent stone coasters, four of the same design. 4.25" round with cork backing. Each set in a printed box. Made in USA.
