API Pond-Zyme Plus is a dual-action formula containing specialized bacterial strains and active enzymes. While standard treatments rely solely on bacteria, the enzymes in Pond-Zyme Plus act as a catalyst, immediately breaking down complex organic proteins and pond muck so the bacteria can digest them more efficiently. What is the coverage for the 8 oz container of API Pond-Zyme Plus? The 8 oz (227g) container is highly concentrated. For regular maintenance, it treats up to 8,000 gallons of pond water. For initial spring start-up or to address heavy muck buildup, the 8 oz jar provides enough power for a curative dose for up to 4,000 gallons. Is API Pond-Zyme Plus safe for koi, goldfish, and pond plants? Yes, Pond-Zyme Plus is 100% all-natural and safe for koi, goldfish, and turtles. It will not harm water lilies or other aquatic plants. Because it is a natural biological treatment, it is also safe for wildlife, birds, and pets that may drink from the water. Can I use Pond-Zyme Plus in cold water during spring or fall? Yes. While the bacteria are most active in water temperatures above 50°F, the active enzymes in Pond-Zyme Plus remain effective in cooler water. This makes it an excellent choice for "spring clean-outs" to digest organic debris before the water fully warms up. How often should I apply Pond-Zyme Plus for best results? For regular maintenance and crystal-clear water, apply Pond-Zyme Plus once every two weeks. For ponds with heavy sludge or during the initial spring opening, we recommend a curative dose twice a week for two weeks until the organic matter is visibly reduced.
