Antonovka Rootstock

Antonovka Apple Rootstock for Sale Antonovka Apple Rootstock is an extremely cold-hardy rootstock for apple and crabapple trees. It can handle temperatures well into USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 3. Its full-size growth, deep roots, and strong vigor make it an excellent choice for wildlife orchards, food plots, and traditional apple orchards. Antonovka Apple Rootstock for Wildlife Trees Antonovka is a standard apple rootstock that will produce a full-size tree reaching 20 feet or more. A full-size tree can produce a large amount of fruit while using less ground space than several smaller trees. The root system is one of the biggest advantages of Antonovka rootstock. It develops deep, well-defined roots that anchor the tree firmly in the soil. These deep roots can also reach moisture and nutrients farther below the surface. Because of this deep root system and full vigor, Antonovka can be a good choice for drier sites and other locations where growing conditions are less than ideal. Where to Plant Antonovka Rootstock Antonovka Apple Rootstock works well in many different soil types and growing conditions. It can be especially useful for wildlife plantings in areas such as: Former wooded ground converted to food plots Reclaimed land Shale mountain soil Drier uplands Ridges Sandy or lower-fertility soils Traditional orchard soil Although Antonovka can handle tougher locations, it will also perform exceptionally well in good orchard soil. For the best growth and fruit production, provide adequate nutrients and the proper soil pH. Antonovka also handles excessive moisture better than many other apple rootstocks. This gives you another option when choosing rootstock for a site that may experience periods of wet soil. Full-Size Apple Rootstock Antonovka is a standard rootstock with full vigor. It can produce a tree reaching 20 feet or more at maturity. For wildlife plantings, this full-size growth can be a major advantage. A larger tree has the potential to carry much more fruit above the ground. It can also develop a large root system that supports the tree as it grows. Compared with semi-standard clonal rootstocks, Antonovka provides more natural vigor and a larger mature tree. This makes it especially useful when your goal is to grow large, productive wildlife trees. Antonovka Rootstock Compatibility Antonovka rootstock is highly compatible with apple and crabapple scion wood. It is an excellent choice when you want to graft your own apple or crabapple varieties onto a vigorous, cold-hardy root system. The rootstock provides the foundation for the finished tree, while the scion determines the variety and fruit it will produce.
