Antique Copper Jam Pot Vintage. Found in a flea market in Montpelier. Made of copper. Iron ring handles 7" H x 16" dia Editor's notes A fixture of the traditional French kitchen, copper jam pots—bassines à confiture—have long been used for making jams and preserves. Their wide, shallow shape encourages rapid evaporation, while copper’s excellent heat conductivity helps fruit and sugar cook quickly and evenly. Traditionally made without lids, these handsome vessels were designed to move easily from stove to worktable. Years of use give old copper its distinctive warm patina, making vintage jam pots as beautiful as they are practical. Today, we love them beyond the kitchen as well—filled with fruit or flowers, used for entertaining, or simply left on display. Their honest materials, generous proportions and traces of age embody everything we love about the utilitarian objects of the French kitchen.
