Early 20th century; W.D. Allen Manufacturing Company - Chicago, IL This now-empty antique copper fire extinguisher originally had to be "charged" before use. The result was a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, sulfuric acid, and water. The extinguisher would be good for a year. This extinguisher was originally inspected by Underwriters' Laboritories, Inc. a safety science organization that tests products and technologies. We know them today for their safety seal featuring the offset letters "UL" in a circle. The copper extinguisher is in good condition with some oxidization, a few paint marks, and some damage along the bottom. This item is missing the expulsion hose.
