Key centers for ceramic production included outer Hebrides, particularly Islay and Skye, where local materials and traditional techniques were employed. The term "Auld" refers to older styles, which often featured distinctively Scottish motifs, including thistles and other flora, reflecting the country’s natural heritage. Many pieces had practical uses, such as plates, bowls, and jugs, often made from earthenware and stoneware. Hand-painted designs characterized the decorative aspects, influenced by Scottish culture and the growing demand for functional yet artistic tableware. Scottish ceramics began to gain recognition in the 18th century, rivaling English pottery. Today, collectors value these pieces for their historical significance, craftsmanship, and connection to Scottish heritage.
