Anthurium Clarinervium

Anthurium clarinervium is grown for one thing: the leaves. Each one is a thick, velvety heart in deep forest green, crossed by white veins so bright they look drawn on. Mature leaves reach 8 to 10 inches across on a plant that stays a manageable 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. It is an epiphyte from the limestone cliffs of Chiapas, Mexico, which tells you what it wants: a chunky, fast-draining mix, bright indirect light, and water only once the top of the mix has dried. Give it those three things and it is far less temperamental than its reputation. It earns a spot on a bright shelf or plant stand where its foliage is the focal point.
