Anna & Meader Kiwi Vine Pollination Pack

Get Double the Pollinator Power with This Kiwi Pack! Kiwis have tangy, tropical flavor for days, paired with unbeatable nutritional benefits. And with this Pollinator Pack, you'll have everything you need to grow your own Kiwis at home! Anna Hardy Kiwis get their name from their incredibly high tolerance for cold weather. They can thrive in temperatures well below freezing, along with heavy snow and ice storms. Even better, Anna Hardy Kiwis are also heat and drought tolerant and can grow regions with hot and dry summers. Plus, they're extremely pest and disease-resistant, making them low-maintenance and easy to care for. The Anna Hardy Kiwi has a complex flavor profile that is sweet yet tart and tangy, resembling the taste of pineapple. With their smooth, firm skin and smaller grape-like size, Anna Hardy Kiwis are perfect for picking right off the vine for snacking. Best of all, this kiwi variety has skin that is smooth and free of the signature fuzz found on other kiwi varieties. Just pick from the abundant harvest of this high-yield Kiwi and enjoy its fresh, exotic fruit without having to peel it first! Anna Hardy Kiwis do require a pollinator to produce fruit, so we made this easy for you by pre-bundling your Anna Hardy Kiwi with a Meader Kiwi to ensure you have enough pollinator power to produce fruit for years to come. Like the Anna Hardy Kiwi, the Meader Kiwi is also drought, pest, and disease resistant as well as cold hardy, tolerating temperatures and winter storms well below freezing. It also has the same added bonus of fuzzless skin, so you can enjoy the sweet tropical taste of this grape-sized kiwi straight from the vine as a refreshing treat on a hot summer’s day. Kiwi Vines provide beauty and tons of fruit while hardly taking up any space at all. They will grow on a fence or trellis, leaving your yard or garden free of invasion. And in early spring, they'll produce hundreds of vibrant white blooms. By late summer, you will have a full harvest of delicious fruit right from your own backyard! Grab this dynamic duo today and take advantage of all the benefits the Anna + Meader Hardy Kiwis have to offer! Planting & Care Location: Place your plants in an area with well-draining soil that preferably gets morning sun and afternoon shade. Though Kiwi plants prefer full to partial sun, young plants cannot tolerate scorching heat. Keep this in mind when choosing your location. Planting Instructions: Plant your Kiwi plants close to each other in a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig your hole three times as wide and just as deep as the root ball on the Kiwi. Carefully separate the roots of your kiwi by gently combing the root ball with your hands, and position it downward in the hole. Backfill the planting area and tamp down lightly on the soil as you go to avoid any air pockets from forming. Mulching the area will help conserve moisture in the soil and keep competing growth at bay. Watering: Kiwi plants need to be watered deeply and regularly the first year they are planted. This is most important during periods of drought. Never allow the soil to completely dry out. Browning and dropping of the leaves is a good indication of the plant not receiving enough water. Adding mulch around the plant will help it retain moisture. The best type of mulch to use for kiwi plants is straw or manure. Fertilization: Kiwi plants are hungry plants and require heavy nitrogen to thrive; especially during the growing season. Ideal fertilization times are in early March and then again in early summer. You can also fertilize in the fall. However, late-year fertilization can enhance the fruit size but hasten the ripening process, which later can cause the fruit to store poorly. Pruning: Prune your Kiwi annually to help fruit production. Pruning should mainly be done to encourage growth, shape the plant, and allow air and sunlight penetration. Female plants: You can remove any shoots that are less fruit-producing. Since Kiwis are typically grown on a trellis, prune the vine back some once it reaches the very top of the trellis to help train the vine. Leave room for two buds near the top of the plant to grow. You can tie them loosely with planter’s tape to help support them, but allow them the room to grow. As the plant ages, continue to prune lateral shoots and allow the trunk to grow. Male plants: Prune the flowering shoots down after the plant blooms. This can be done anywhere between 40-60 cm in length depending on the size of the plant. Ensure when you do this that mostly green growth is remaining on the shoots. Pollination: Kiwi plants require both a male and female plant to produce fruit. Luckily, this pollinator pack has both, so you'll get fruit with just one pack! However, you can add more kiwi trees to increase fruit production.
